Boy

One thing which struck me in Sri Lanka is the way children play and what makes them happy. Waiting at Hatton Station I was watching kids interact. I saw new friendship blossom over school books and comparing colourful pencil cases. It all reminded me of my childhood, a time where face to face interaction was what we knew best. I am happy knowing the more fulfilling way of communicating is still the way in Sri Lanka. I hope that these kids when older appreciate it for what it is, just as I hope many of us now do.

Boy resting during his journey to Adam’s Peak, Sri Lanka.
I was on my way down from the peak after a 1am start to reach the top for sunset. The journey down was a little easier but after climbing 5200 steps my legs were jelly. Climbing at night was made easier with the cooler temperatures but many take on Adam’s Peak during the day, perhaps to further test their physical, mental and spiritual strength.
It was incredible seeing the endurance of so many elderly. The strength that faith gave these people is mind blowing, it overtook any pain they had to complete the journey.
