One thing that makes me extremely happy is when I see kids taking photos. Something takes control of me and I become the spectator almost the subject for them. Photography is an effective tool in igniting children’s imagination, self-esteem and to empower. Put a camera in a child’s hand and you will be amazed to see what we as adults are unable to capture.   — with  Moe Elrifai  at  Avukana Buddha statue .

Generally if I am approached by a stranger I automatically assume they want something. It is easy to forget that when in another part of the world it could be different, or that back at home at the very least I need to remind myself to let people in, even if they aren’t familiar or make me uncomfortable.

Our new friend Ratna made us laugh and taught us that knowledge is the biggest gift you can share. Persistence even in the most awkward and challenging moments with strangers are the most fulfilling, I am glad we let this stranger in and we were lucky enough to learn about the history of  Sigiriya .

The sun had set and time got the better of us, my friend and I were the only ones remaining at the top of Sigiriya. The last remaining moments of light we came across 4 monks that we had befriended earlier. There was a surreal moment makin g our way back down the 1202 steps in darkness, being guided by monks illuminating our path with the light from their mobiles. Jumping fences and slightly disorientated we all made it safely to the bottom. We thanked our new friends and said goodbye smiling, one monk took a liking to my friend  Moe  and had even asked for his number .

The perfect ending to a perfect day.
